U.S. Congress says South Korea’s substantial defense cost-sharing contributions should be respected

ahead of the fourth round of defense
cost-sharing talks between Seoul and Washington on Tuesday the US Congress
lauded South Korea’s budget commitments to security in its defense bill for
fiscal year 2020 the US Senate’s noted that South Korea spends about 2.5
percent of its GDP on defense the highest figure among US allies it’s also
praised the Seoul government shouldering of additional costs including the
construction of Camp Humphreys for US troops in Korea the Senate also said the
special measures agreement should ensure mutual benefits and respect in
recognition of South Korea’s substantial cost-sharing commitments
