Travel with Doug & Narelle to Eastern Canada & USA in 2019

– Hello and welcome to Holiday World TV. And my name’s Narelle
Melhuish and my husband and I have been here at Salamander
Bay for over 23 years now. And what we do is we love to travel and so do all of our clients and one place that’s very special to our
heart is Canada and Alaska. And I know that’s on a lot
of people’s bucket list, maybe it’s on your bucket list. And today I’d just like to talk to you about the Evergreen product,
introduce you to that. It’s a fabulous product where you get to see the wonderful sights
of Canada and Alaska. And I must say, Canada
would have to be one of the most beautiful countries
that I’ve ever visited and certainly the word that I use with regard to the Rocky Mountains is gobsmacked and hopefully
you feel that way too when you get your chance to go on your holiday of a lifetime. What they have are tours of the West Coast so that you can see the Rocky Mountains, beautiful Lake Louise, Jasper, Whistler, gorgeous places to visit. Very scenic and beautiful. And then combine that with
a cruise through to Alaska to see the wonderful glaciers and beautiful animals, otters, whales. Lots of other things, bears. What we are doing this
year is we’ve put together a tour for next year so that
you can come along with us to the East Coast because
that’s certainly an area that not everybody gets a chance to visit. And if you’ve been to the
West Coast then certainly going to the East Coast is a
wonderful opportunity for you. What we have is a tour
that starts in Boston, goes up through takes you to Niagara, Montreal and then back to New York. That’s very briefly what it is. But what I’d like to do is pass you over, we’ve done a video podcast with Amanda from Evergreen Tours and
she’ll explain all about this wonderful product and about Canada. – [Amanda] Hi ladies and
gentlemen, thank you for having me. As Narelle said, my name’s Amanda. I’ve been working for the Evergreen and the Scenic group for
going on 17 years now. So I’m going to talk a little
bit about our North America products so our Eastern
Canada group departure which Narelle knows we’re
taking next year and also a little bit around some
of the other options that we offer on the West Coast
so throughout the Rockies. I’m going to go through just a little bit about the Evergreen
Experience so what we include and what sets us apart,
makes us a little different. I’m going to talk a little
bit about the You’re Invited, so these are unique experiences that we include in the cost
of our tours so they’re already in the itinerary for you that will be a little bit
unique and set the itinerary apart from if you were doing it yourself. Some of our Discover More experiences. So with Evergreen we do like to give you a bit of free time as well
so whilst you’re over there we do include site
seeing, but also free time in a lot of the ports and
the towns that we visit. But you also have the option
to add on and do more as well. So they’re what we call our
Discover More experiences. And our Canada and Alaska and
our East Coast itineraries. And a little bit about
what our Early Bear, Early Bear instead of early bird, we call it Early Bear offers and also an exclusive discount for
coming along this evening. As you know, there’s lots of
touring options around, too. So in North America sometimes it can get a little bit overwhelming
around the options. We were just talking tonight about some of the different
operators that are out there. Hopefully this afternoon
I can help give you some information that’ll help you make a bit more of a clear and easier decision. This word I’m going to
say it’s called resfeber. Resfeber basically means
anticipation of wanderlust. So this is a, I guess,
the opportunity to travel it really fills everyone
with overwhelming excitement. Why choose Evergreen? Well we have a fully escorted tours with our local and
experienced tour directors. They are supported by our
Canadian based operations team so just based in the
Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver. We’ve got some experts on the ground there to help with the entire programme. We include the must-sees so included as I said in each town
we have the, or city that we visit we’ve got some sight-seeing. Some of the must-sees
such as the beautiful Butchart Gardens that we see here and we do spend a few hours
at this beautiful location where you get to walk through
the different gardens. This is the sunken garden, this
the gorgeous sunken garden. There’s a Japanese garden that’s just kind of mind-blowing, it’s beautiful. So lots of local treasures
that you wouldn’t maybe even know existed unless you went with an experienced touring company. So we also have included
in our West Coast Rockies itinerary is the Ice Field Parkway. So this is the ice explorer. This takes you up onto
the Athabasca Glacier. And those coaches are a
lot larger than they look. I can stand in like you
see one of those wheels. So they’re massive and an
experience that a lot of people learn of to enjoy here is
this running fresh water and going and having and
taking an empty bottle and having a sip from the glaciers of the fresh water which is a really unique experience. It’s really great at earlier
in the season to do that rather than later in the season ’cause a lot of tourists that
go tromping through there. So a lot of other companies may add this on or off this as an extra. This is all included with Evergreen. So in Toronto we will go
to the top of the CN Tower. So you get fabulous views across the city. And of course also going to Niagara Falls of which I’ll talk a little bit about. Going forward we get to take in the waterfalls from above and below. We also include, as I
mentioned, city tours. So this is beautiful New
York and this is included in our Eastern Canada tour which I’ll go into a little bit more detail as well. So we also stay in the
heart of the cities. So that’s something
important to think about when you do have that free time. You’ve got the option to then
just walk straight out of your hotel and pretty much anything that you’d like to see
is on your doorstep. You also got the local tour directors that will be able to give you expert advice and using
their experience on where they suggest you might want to go and see if you’ve got some free time or if you’ve added on any sort
of pre or post accommodation. So our hotels are pretty special. Some of them are chosen for
their scenic location as well, such as the Chateau Lake Louise. It’s a beautiful property. This is the Emerald Lake Lodge which is situated right on the lake side. So this is the stunning Emerald Lake. We do have some itineraries that stay there throughout the Rockies. And of course, as I mentioned, the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. So this is just beautiful anytime of year. If you go during the
sort of April May months it can still be partially
if not completely frozen. So and over winter period they do have ice skating and ice
sculptures on the lake. Then as you go through into
June, July, August of course you get the lake melts and it’s
a beautiful turquoise colour that you see on this picture. So it’s a beautiful experience and not like anything we’ve
really got in Australia. The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, so this is the castle in the Rockies. She is an iconic property and in Vancouver we usually stay at the Westin Bay Shores. So that’s right down on
the shore of the harbour. Vancouver is one of the
most beautiful cities I’ve ever seen, it’s absolutely stunning. With harbours and mountains
in the background, it’s incredible. Probably it’s like, it’s
probably my favourite city in the world, I’ll be completely honest. I spent a few months there and I was very lucky to
get to take it all in. In New York we stay at the Hilton Midtown. So again right in the heart of the city. So it’s centrally located
and you can get out and about easily to explore further afield. And of course no tour would be complete without the amazing food so
in all of our itineraries we do highlight what meals are included. It could be for breakfast
which is everyday which will be a full buffet
breakfast in most occasions and you also have a lot of lunches as well as a lot of dinners included. Now we do give you some free time so you’ve got the option to go out and explore some fabulous
restaurants on your own. One of the other inclusions
important to Evergreen, all tipping and gratuities are included. And that includes everything
from your porterage in the hotel so you don’t
worry about your bags. You barely pick them up
to be completely honest. They’re all looked after for you and taken from room to the coach. And also restaurants so when you’re eating and you’re having enjoying your meal one of the really fun
things about travelling to North America is eating
and they’ll want a tip and then making sure that
you’ve done it right. You don’t have to worry about any of that. It’s all included everywhere we take you you have all your
tipping included upfront. So now you can feel free to tip more if they’ve done a great job
but absolutely no need to, it’s already included in your fare. So You’re Invited, so I spoke a little about those unique experiences. So we include these as part of your tour. So they’re something that you wouldn’t necessarily do if you’re over there. So for example we include in Ottawa a visit to a First Nations camp. And you get to mingle with the locals and you get to actually
experience what it is to live like them and they do a bit of a having musicians come out and doing a bit of show for you as well. So we do have an itinerary that includes breakfast at
the aquarium in Vancouver. And you get to see these
fabulous little guys. And you know also one
of the other inclusions that we have as a You’re
Invited is in Sun Peaks we have a fur traders presentation. Also depending on where you’re going but if you do go up into Alaska we do have the option
of going dog sledding. It’s one of the most
popular options that… Yet if you’re going on an
Alaskan cruise this year you might have the option to do this. It is really popular. You get to meet the dogs and you get to hear a
demonstration as well. So that’s really cool. And in Vancouver, again
depending on the itinerary, there is a visit to Grouse Mountain. So Grouse Mountain is one of the mountains that you get to see from
the downtown Vancouver city. And they’ve got two grizzly bears that live up there all year round. So even if you don’t
necessarily get to see any bears out in the wild which
depending on the time of year. I was lucky enough five
times when I went through us to see both black and brown bears so these are grizzly bears,
they’re called Grinder and Coola and they’ve been up there for a long time. They’re pretty old but
they’re really great to see. Over on the East Coast we have the, this is in Quebec, this
is the sugar shack. So we visit these pictures
where they use the maple, they’ll show you how
they extract the maple from the maple trees and
then you get the maple syrup and then they make lollipops and all sorts of sweets out of it so a really delicious way
to spend the afternoon. Now on our itinerary as well, we do include a visit to,
for everyone across the room, we do include a visit through Lancaster which is the world of the Amish, where the Amish people live. So something a little bit different. Seeing a different way of life. We do include some cruising as well. I’m not going to talk
much about the cruising ’cause we do have our friends at Oceania here to talk a bit more about that tonight but we do have itineraries as well that offer different options
with Alaskan cruising. Now if you are going to the West Coast the Rocky Mountaineer, one of the world’s most
famous railway journeys. Absolutely incredible experience. It’s two full days on the train. I can’t tell you how
exhausting it actually is. Playing a game of tennis like
this looking out the window because there’s so much to see. It’s absolutely incredible. It’s a pretty special train journey. It is absolutely unforgettable. Very lucky to have done
that a couple times myself and they now offer two
different classes of travel. The fabulous Goldleaf
which is the glass dome that you just saw and also Silverleaf. So with Evergreen if
you do one of the tours, most of the time we include Silverleaf which has beautiful windows sort of they curve up but it’s not
glass all the way over. They do include the
meals, beautiful meals, it could be fresh salmon
for lunch for example. That’s included in your seat. If you do upgrade you’ll be
travelling in the Goldleaf class. It really is an incredible experience. Narelle, you’ve been there, it’s amazing. There’s a dining car
underneath the carriage and so they will take you down
into breakfast and for lunch. I think the last time I did a breakfast in Goldleaf it was lobster eggs benedict. So lobster tail eggs benedict. So it’s delicious, it’s incredible. We’re all about the cute animals. With our Discover More excursions, so as I’ve mentioned before there’s the option to add on extra touring. So for any free time or
anywhere in the brochure you see it’s highlighted
orange Discover More, then you have the option
to add on an extra tour. All the additional prices for those are listed in the brochures as well in the very back so there’s
a lot of little extras that you can do such as meeting
throughout certain areas. You can go and meet the dogsled puppies. We also include in Whistler a bear viewing expert, his name’s
Michael Allen and he has, oh he looks after around
70 black bears in Whistler. Knows all by name and
generally take you out to the best places to find those bears. When I was in Whistler,
I was lucky to see a bear from my hotel room just
there in the garden. So (laughs) they can be a
bit of a pest so they have this expert there that
will help look after them. The town I suppose and the bears. So we do have the option to see the wolf dog sanctuary as well and for the foodies we also
have culinary options as well. So in Victoria for example we
have a walking tour through some of our, the local markets, yep. There’s also foodie tours in Quebec City, New York, and in Whistler. I’m just gonna take you through now just a little bit around
the group itinerary. Show you what is included in
our East Coast tour in 2019 as well as just some of the, very quickly, some of the most popular
West Coast tours that we do. So first is starting with our Holiday World escorted departure. With Narelle and Doug,
this commences in Boston on the 18th of May 2019. The East Coast is very
different to the west. So very European influence and obviously that French Canadian style. So we’ll visit Quebec, Montreal, down Lancaster, Washington, into New York. Lots of different picturesque
sort of landscapes. Lots of different
European charm throughout. So starting in Boston we
then travel to Montreal, Quebec City and Ottawa before heading to the beautiful Toronto. That’s on that map there it
shows you how many nights we stay in each of the
places that we visit. In Toronto as I mentioned
we visit the CN Tower and you get those spectacular
views and also through Toronto you go into magnificent Niagara Falls. So we do include a cruise which is quite a thrilling experience down through the inside
curve of Horseshoe Bay Falls as they call them. And this is where you get
to sort of feel water, you’ll get pretty wet. So then the tour then
continues into Lancaster. So you get to visit the Amish community and see their way of life
as I was talking about. And then we go into the
capital city, Washington D.C. and we spend two nights and then we have, the tour concludes in
the big apple, New York. For two nights there as well and you can obviously opt to extend on those nights as well if you wish. Now you can do both
which I think it might be something that you
– We do like that. – Lovely, so you can do the West Coast as well as over onto the East Coast, once in lifetime experience. Obviously you get to do
the beautiful Rockies, Alaska, and over to the East. But if you’re looking at say just a couple of the other itineraries
I was talking about, so just the West Coast
we’ve got a 17 day itinerary that includes the Rocky Mountaineer. This one has a cruise
out of, is it Seattle? We’ve also got the, we’ve got
an 18 day Rockies Explorer. So just some different
itineraries depending on the departure that would suits as well as perhaps your budget and we also offer itineraries,
this one you can do without the Rocky Mountaineer. So, the Rocky Mountaineer is two days, it’s a very luxurious way to travel but it does bump the
price up of the departure. If you’re thinking of perhaps exploring further afield up into Alaska we do have options where you can go into the Alaskan wilderness,
so right up into the lands, staying in the wilderness
there in Alaska as well. And we do have options with
East Coast cruising as well. In 2019 we’ve also got an
East Coast USA land programme, as you can see here so
this one goes from New York right down into South Carolina. So seeing some of that deep south. So we also, once you travel with Evergreen you also become a member
of our explorer club. So you will have access to
our e-magazine, newsletters, offers, special deals and
the more you travel with us the more options and offers and what not that you actually will get. Alright, special offers,
everyone loves a deal. Depending on the itinerary
that you’re doing we do have what we call
two for one airfare deals. So buy one, get one free. On the East Coast tour we
do have different offers. So on the group departure
the airfare inclusive rate is written on the flyer, the
take home can explain, too, a little bit more around those inclusions. But we do have two for one airfare deals. We have discounts if you’re
gonna get your own airfares. We can do upgrades of course to premium economy and business class. The flight from Sydney
to Vancouver is about 15 hours, 14 hours nowadays. So if you’ve got an option
to upgrade then certainly, subject to availability,
not a bad way to go. And we have solo traveller offers also. So as I mentioned we’ve just covered off sort of a little bit about Evergreen. Thank you very much,
it’s been my delight to bring this part to you. – Well thank you for
listening right to the end to our video podcast for Canada and I’m hopefully that
you’ve stayed till the end because you’re so excited
about the adventures that you might have for your
next holiday of a lifetime. Probably the best thing now is to call in and grab a brochure from
us or give us a call, we’ll put the details down below. And we’re really looking
forward to helping you with your next Canada and
USA holiday of a lifetime.
