PoP Vlog 6 – Happy Holidays

It’s so cold! Happy Holidays, Pearson! This is the month of celebration and holidays. We have Christmas, we have Hanukkah, we have
Kwanzaa, and so many more that I could mention. And for those of us who aren’t celebrating
an actual holiday, I hope that we take the time off this time of the year to spend with
our loved ones and to eat lots of food and to watch lots of Christmas movies. Because I am obsessed with the Hallmark channel,
so I shall be watching back-to-back Christmas movies this year. And I hope that you all take some well-deserved
time off, as well, because it’s been a really, really hard year this year and you all deserve
it – we all deserve it. This month, we hear from colleagues around
the world talk about their reflections for 2017, personal or professional. You know on these vlogs, we don’t want one
or the other we want them both, we want to get to know everyone. And I also wanted to hear from them about
what they’re looking forward to in 2018. But, you know what’s going to happen next,
because it’s been six months. Cue that intro music! My reflection for 2017 is being thrust out
of my comfort zone. I may come across confident, but doing these
vlogs, initially, was super scary to me, super, super scary. I’m inspired by vloggers, I actually watched
lots of vlogs before I started my own vlogging journey with Pearson. So when we launched the Advocate program,
just before we launched, I emailed Kim, and I said, “Can I do this?” Like, I don’t know if it’s going to work,
but I really want to try it, and within a couple of minutes she actually emailed back
saying, “Yes, do it!” so then that journey started. For me, the comfort zone part, as well as
the vlogging, is the editing part. I didn’t want to do an ametaur job for you
guys, I want it be like semi-profesh (professional), but obviously those courses cost hundreds,
if not thousands, of pounds, so I had to look for free alternatives. So I went to YouTube and YouTube has thousands,
thousands, of videos online showing you how to do things, so I learnt through YouTube
tutorials. I guess in 2018, I really want to do a little
bit more in terms of my skills and in terms of my video skills, because I want to make
my vlogs a little bit more profesh (professional). And I’m thinking I want to learn more about
animation, using Adobe After Effects. So I shall be self-teaching myself, whenever
I get the chance next year, to do a little bit more animation. Right, enough about me and my reflections
and my looking forward goals. Let’s head to our Pearson peeps! In 2017, I think there was two fantastic achievements
in the Pearson Middle East. And I say fantastic because both of them are
actually very close to my heart and I’m very grateful to be part of making them happen. The first one is actually launching the first-ever
Pearson myLab, StudentSuccessLab, in Arabic. Leveraging the U.S. expertise and research-based
content in the local language here in the Middle East was always a dream and it happened
this year. The second one is actually investing in the
first-ever integrated skills Arabic language program that we hopefully will bring to the
region to make today’s learners in the Middle East actually learn in a modern, dynamic approach. In 2018, what I look forward to in terms of
achievement, hopefully measuring our impact from these programs, to support our mission
in improving lives through learning Arabic. Wishing you a very Happy Hanukkah, for those
who celebrate it. This year, I, myself, managed to accomplish
a few things, which I, myself, thought that I wouldn’t be able to, some time back. I’m an enthusiast in artificial intelligence
and deep learning topics. So this year, in August, I managed to publish
my first book on deep learning. Not only that, I actually conducted a couple
of sessions on deep learning topics, as well. Now, if you would like to check out my book,
it’s named Build Deeper, The Deep Learning, Beginners’ Guide, and it’s available on
Amazon. I’m celebrating Christmas in the hot weather. We love it hot here! I used to be a medical doctor, I’m a cardiologist,
based in the UK, and I’m very glad to be working in the education industry. In the last couple of years, Greater China
has a lot of changes, some of the reorganization, we tried to simplify our organization. So, two months ago, we had some new business
transformation has been announced, and also we have a lot of the new exciting projects
going on right now, especially in the next couple of years, we’re focusing on the technology
development, which is part of the business transformation. In the last couple of years, we are focusing
on Wall Street English or the Global Education. And due to the change of the strategy in the
last couple of months, those two have been done already. Now we are focusing on our Core business,
which is our Core strategy, “content + assessment powered by service and technology.” So looking forward to seeing you in China
and welcome to Beijing, thank you. Merry Christmas from Dubai! I really hope you enjoyed listening to our
colleagues talk about their reflections and what they’re really looking forward to in
2018. Thank you so much for tuning in this month,
guys. I don’t want a lot for Christmas, there is
just one thing I need. I don’t care about the presents, underneath
the Christmas tree. I just want you for my own, more than you
could ever know. Make my wish come true, all I want for Christmas
is you…Yeah. I don’t want a lot for Christmas, there is
just one thing I need. I don’t care about the presents, underneath
the Christmas tree. I don’t need to hang my stocking, there upon
the fireplace. Santa Claus won’t make me happy, with a toy
on Christmas Day. I just want you for my own, more than you
could ever know. Make my wish come true… All I want for Christmas is you. You, baby. That was so much fun! Thank you so much to my lip-syncers, you guys
are immensely, immensely talented. It’s extremely brave to do that on camera,
so thank you, I really, really appreciate it and I’m sure Pearson appreciates it. We appreciate you. If you like this vlog, again, you know the
drill, please “like” and comment and share, it means a lot and especially knowing that
going into the new year, I’ll get to continue creating these vlogs for you. This vlog of course will be on Neo, it is
going to be on the Pearson YouTube channel and on LinkedIn Elevate. If you don’t know what LinkedIn Elevate
is, do get involved, it’s really cool and it helps build your personal brand and if
you want to find out more, I’ll pop a link down in the comments section below. Make sure you guys check out the Pearson Advocates
group on Neo, it’s where we continue to learn, to grow, to share, and up-skill together. The Advocate team, which is Kim, Maren, Amanda,
and me, would like to wish you all a very, very Merry Christmas, to those that are celebrating,
and a very, very Happy New Year to everyone across Pearson. Until next year, bye! All I want for Christmas is you, my sock! Is there whiskey in there?
