WE’RE JOINED BY HawaiiUSA FEDERAL CREDIT UNION. THEY ARE A LEADER IN OUR COMMUNITY IN GIVING BACK TO ALL OF US. IT’S ALL ABOUT THEIR LIFE MATTERS COMMITMENT. WHERE DOES THAT GIVING SPIRIT COME FROM? IT SEEMS CONTAGIOUS. EVERYBODY HAS IT. THAT’S A GREAT QUESTION. IT ALL STARTS WITH OUR COMMISSION, TO IMPROVE OUR MEMBERS’ LIVES THROUGH OUR LIFE MATTERS COMMITMENT. IT’S PART OF WHO WE ARE. THE COOL THING IS WE HAVE A COMMUNITY CALLED COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS, AND IT’S MADE UP OF OUR EMPLOYEES THAT VOLUNTEER THEIR TIME TALENT. THEY DEDICATE TO ORGANIZATIONS THEY’RE GOING TO GIVE BACK TO. WE GET TO HAVE THE EMPLOYEES’ VOICE HEARD OF THE ORGANIZATION THAT THEY WANT TO GIVE BACK TO DURING THAT YEAR. I THINK IT’S THE COOLEST THING. TAIZO: ISABEL, FOR THE EMPLOYEES, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE OTHER WAYS THAT YOU GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY? I WANT TO HEAR YOUR TAKE. THERE’S A LOT THAT YOU GUYS DO, RIGHT? WE FUND RAISE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. WE DO IT FOR A CHARITY EACH QUARTER. THIS YEAR WE’VE DONE SHRINER’S HOSPITAL, KAPIOLANI CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK. THE ADOPT THE SCHOOL AND CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES. WHAT I REALLY LOVE ABOUT HAWAI’I 34-GS USA AND HOW EACH EMPLOYEE CAN GIVE, WE LIVE THROUGH OUR STRENGTH. SOME OF US ARE GOOD SALES PEOPLE. OTHERS ARE I GUESS BEHIND OF SCENES. WE DON’T WANT TO BE SCENE. SEEN. WE HELP WITH LOGISTICS, SETTING UP, CLEANING UP AND OTHERS LIKE ME I LOVE TO BAKE. REALLY GOOD. AND WE LIKE TO DONATE OUR BAKED GOODS TO THINGS LIKE OUR BENTO AND BAKE SALE IN OCTOBER. WE RAISED NEARLY $1,200. IT WAS REALLY GREAT. WE ALSO HAVE STIPPENS AVAILABLE FOR OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND OUR COLLEGE STUDENTS. ALONG WITH STIPPENS FOR PROFESSIONAL EDUCATORS. TAIZO: I LOVE IT. WHAT DID SHE BAKE? CHOCOLATE CAKE. WE PARTNER WITH LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND SUPPORT THEIR STUDENT OPERATED CREDIT UNIONS. SOME STAYED ON AS INTERNS AND ARE OUR EMPLOYEES. TAIZO: THAT’S AMAZING. WE’VE TALKED ABOUT OFF CAMERA, THE WAIPAHU PROGRAM. YOU TEACH THAT FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE AND THEY BECOME EMPLOYEES WITH YOU. THAT’S SO GREAT. FOR ALL THE LADIES, WHEN THE HOLIDAYS COME AROUND AND YOU’RE ABLE TO GIVE BACK, HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL INSIDE? DOES IT FEEL GOOD? IT MAKES ME FEEL SO PLOWED TO BE PART OF A GREAT COMPANY.
