BROKE FOR THE HOLIDAYS, DIY X-MAS TREE

What’s up DIYer’s I’m Corinne and this is my cohost Mr. Nuts. “Hey guys, I wanna crack your nuts” You’re watching Threadbangers “Broke for the Holidays” The best show on the interwebs during this time of year. Especially if you ain’t got no money. Today’s mission, cheap and easy x-mas tree. Price we want to spend today, zero dollars. Items we need include, old cardboard box, glue gun, and spray paint is optional. The tree i’m gonna make today is losely inspired by Swedish design. I’ve been kind of obsessed lately soo, that’s what I decided to go for. Okay, so you start by drawing half of a tree shape on one of the flaps of the box. As you can see, I had to redraw a few times ’till I got the design I wanted. Cut out that half of the tree with some heavy duty cutters. Then flip the flap over to the other side and trace around it. Cut that half out, to create one full tree shape. Then trace that shape onto the other side of the box. And cut that one out. Next you do that onto the remaining flaps so now you have four sets of the shape. Keep one shape complete but, cut the other ones in half so your peices look like this. Next you glue all the pieces together with your trusty glue gun. Starting by gluing two of the halves to either side of the one complete piece. You’ll essentially create an x for x-mas tree. What? Then glue the remaining segments into each of the four segments we just created. And you should have something like this. Alright, so next I took the tree outside and I spray painted it red. After it was all dry I put the tree into a special piece of pottery that I had. And it was perfect! It made it super sturdy and gave it the height that I wanted. Lastly I just added some string lights and some homemade pom poms. That you can learn how to make in this video. Because this is the year of the pom pom. Ever year is the year of the pom pom. Since I already had all the supplies I used on hand the entire tree cost me zero dollars. Use things you already have around the house and you are set. If you’re looking for more DIY tree inspiration check out this round up of weird trees by Mr. Kate. Links in the description. And if you need more ornament ideas, take a gander at this video I did on craftavision. Rounding up all my favorites. There’s a ton of ideas. If you make your own tree this year post a pic to our Facebook, or at threadbangerstuidos on Instagram. Because we love to see your projects. And until next time. “Ha ha ha, nuts!”

  1. I'm gonna make a few little ones in different colors and sizes for cute DIY decor ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. No need to cut through all three flap trees. Seems you can glue them in whole just like if you were doing a mini version of this with construction paper. Anyone think of why that wouldn't work?ย

  3. dammit. I just bought a forty dollar shitty plastic tree. this would have been awesome ๐Ÿ™

  4. Is there anyway to make a gift without buying anything. I'm tired of getting and buying gifts that will be used for about a year and then done.

  8. You might find this hard to believe, but my wife and I went to Kohl's the first week of January in 2015, they had a 6' tall Christmas tree display model marked for $40. It said it was originally $200, but they'd thrown out the box. I was like ok cool, my wife love's Christmas stuff and this year we bought our first home, so I figured hell yes I'll pay for a tree now that's that cheap. Turned out I had a $30 COUPON as well, so I paid $12 for a real (fake) Christmas tree. I was stoked as fuck.

If I didn't get a tree for $12 I probably would've done this this year lol.
